UNICArt contributes to forthcoming Artistic Methodologies Workbook

8 Jul 2026
Dr Brice Catherin met with co-authors of a forthcoming workbook on Artistic Methodologies this July to discuss, write and create art.

UNICArt co-lead Dr Brice Catherin  travelled to Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, this July to work in person with two of the co-authors of his forthcoming artistic methodologies workbook. This book will offer a clear introduction to artistic methodologies, including how-to sections, practical exercises, case studies, and a broader breakdown of past and current practices in the field.

Brice and two of his co-authors also work together as the artist trio ‘the Noisebringers’. The trip was a welcome opportunity not only to discuss and write key sections of the book, but also to create art. Sharing the same physical space was essential: ideas emerge differently through embodied knowledge, improvisation, informal conversation, shared breaks and collective making - a theme which is fully consistent with the book itself: it argues that artistic research depends on process, presence, practice and collaboration.

The workbook responds to a strong demand within UNIC Thematic Line 7 (Arts, Culture and Creativity) and the wider field of artistic research for an accessible, rigorous and practice-based resource.
