Aula maxima, UCC

The volume, edited by Fiona Brennan, Neil Buttimer and myself, is published by Cork University Press, and reproduces both published and previously unpublished material from the poetic, dramatic and prose writings of the former Lord Mayor of Cork City, and Commandant of Cork no 1 Brigade of the Irish Volunteers, with commentaries on same. It seeks to move its subject away from his widely-referenced categorisation as hunger striker and political martyr in the Autumn of 1920, and reposition him as an engaged, informed participant in the many, multi-faceted cultural and political debates that engaged his country during the first two decades of the twentieth century.
