The focus of the conference is imperial limes and borderlands. Thought of as an impenetrable cordon, the borders of empire could be an open, interactive environment. Despite their geographic location on the periphery of the empires, limitrophe regions were influenced to varying degrees by imperial culture and technology. Elements of imperial culture were adopted and transformed by frontier peoples to enrich their own culture and society. This conference brings together specialists from the School of History, UCC and different Armenian educational and scientific institutions, who will explore the development of identities among the peoples of the peripheral regions.
