Entry 2026

The BSc (Hons) in Paramedicine is a pilot programme, applications for entry to 2026 are not yet open.

For admission for the programme applicants must:

Entry Requirements to BSc (Hons) in Paramedicine programme consists of a number of eligibility criterion, qualifications and / or experience, to become an student on the BSc (Hons) in Paramedicine Work Based Learning Programme, you must meet the eligibility criteria for the programme, apply for a vacancy with an approved employer and successfully pass each stage of the recruitment process: 

Minimum education qualifications  

(i)  Be in possession of a Leaving Certificate with a minimum of six passes in the 
Leaving Certificate Examination Ordinary Level or higher including Mathematics 
and a Science subject (e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science) 

OR  

(ii) Be in possession of a Leaving Certificate awarded in 2017 or later with a minimum of six passes in the Leaving Certificate Examination Ordinary Level of higher including Mathematics and a Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) EMT Certificate.  

(iii) Hold a comparable and relevant qualification of at least Level 5 (or above) on the National Qualifications Framework maintained by Qualifications and Quality Ireland, (QQI)  

OR  

(iv) Have a minimum of two years’ full time ambulance service experience at EMT level and hold a Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council EMT Certificate.  

 

Non-standard entry/equivalences including Recognition for Prior Learning   

RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning)
Consideration under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may also be given to 
applicants based on relevant clinical, academic or volunteer experience.

Garda Vetting

Eachstudent offered a place on the BA (Hons) Social Care programme shall be subject to the Employer’s Garda Vetting Policy and its pre-clearance processes which will involve Overseas/International Police Clearance (if applicable), in accordance with UCC’s Student Vetting Policy. 

Application Process 

Applications are invited by CV, together with a personal statement clearly stating suitability for the Work Based Learning Programme. 

Guidance that candidates may find useful in relation to the personal statement is that a word count of 250 should sufficiently allow candidates to fully demonstrate their competence as linked to the specific requirements and seniority of the role – using examples. 

Once the application is fully submitted the applicant will receive a confirmation email. 

Short Listing  

Short listing may be carried out on the basis of information supplied in the application. The criteria for short listing are based on the requirements of the post as outlined in the eligibility criteria and skills, competencies and/or knowledge section of each job specification. Therefore, it is very important that applicants think about their experience in light of those requirements. 

Failure to include information regarding these requirements may result in the applicant not being called forward to the next stage of the selection process. Those successful at the shortlisting stage of this process (where applied) will be called forward to interview.
