Promoting your UCC activity
We can support you in promoting your UCC activity to a wider audience.
Your website
Your UCC website is very often the first point of contact will have with you. It's very important that your website has the information that helps your audience achieve their goals while conveying your key messages. Your website content needs to be timely, relevant and accurate for the people visiting your site.
The web content team, as part of their work for the digital estate for communications group, has put together a comprehensive set of resources to help you put together your UCC website from the conception of the initial idea, through to planning it, making it happen and keeping it all going.
The Digital Estate for Communications Group SharePoint site has more information, or email decomms@ucc.ie
The marketing team will help you tell your story. Explore our range of marketing tool kits, visual identity standards and other resources that will help you present your part of UCC in a way that helps you reach your goals and speak to the right audiences.
Media and Communications
Even though the Office of Media and Communications is a separate office to the Office of Marketing and Brand Impact, both offices work closely together to help you tell your UCC story. Media and Communications can help you with:
- Press Releases
- Working with the media and press
- Developing expert commentary and thought leadership

Social media
The Offices of Marketing and Brand Impact, and Media and Communications manage the organic content on the university's official accounts on any social media platform including Facebook, Twitter and Instragram.
Social media marketing
Social media, when planned and managed well, can help you to reach and engage with audiences across the world. To use social media effectively, you will need to have a strategy. To find out more about using social media for your part of UCC, make sure to visit the Digital Estate for Communications Group information on Social Media (and make sure to familiarise yourself with the university's web and social media policy). Contact decomms@ucc.ie if you want to set up a social media account for your area.
Developing a structure for your social media strategy
To help you manage your social media activity, we recommend you follow PR Smith’s SOSTAC® planning framework as it perfectly represents the kind of planning process you should be using for social media.
SOSTAC® stands for:
- Situation – where are we now? (e.g. audit of your social media activity)
- Objectives – where do we want to be? (e.g. 25% uplift in sales)
- Strategy – how do we get there? (e.g. mission statement, how we segment our target market)
- Tactics – what activities to get us there? (e.g. Twitter activity, set up a blog)
- Action – How do we implement it? (e.g. resourcing your activity, creating an editorial calendar)
- Control – Did we get the results we wanted?
Homepage carousel
The homepage carousel is the big banner image at the top of the UCC homepage. It can contain a number of messages / campaigns at any one time. It is a key strategic area of the UCC homepage and as such, the content presented here will be of a strategic nature i.e. it must tie directly in with one or more of the university's strategic goals as outlined in the strategic plan.
Getting your content onto the homepage carousel
Get in touch with the marketing team with your ideas. We will make sure there is a fit with the UCC strategic plan, so make sure to show how your idea helps the university achieve its strategic goals. We need about 3 weeks advance notice for content to be included. You will need to send us:
- Headline Message
- Sub-head message
- Call-to-action text
- A link to a page on your own site with more information
- Suitable image - image dimensions are
- 1920x650px for full desktop version banner
- 1024x640px for mobile version
- The length of time you want your content to appear in the carousel
The page on your own site should be up-to-date, and contain the relevant detail on the campaign in an easy to read / easy to digest format that gets your ultimate message across in as clear and concise a way as possible.
We may need to reword some of the messages so that your campaign fits tonally with other campaigns that may be running at the time. We may also need to change the length of time, depending on what other demands there are for the carousel space.
Publications
The Offices of Marketing and Brand Impact delivers the university's flagship publication "Independent Thinking".
