Advancing your Research Career
Training - Research Support Officers UCC
Research Manager and Research Support Officer careers can be diverse, rewarding and exciting, yet the move from being a First Stage Research Manager (RM 1) to becoming a Senior Research Manager (RM 4) can also be complex and challenging. (See link to CARDEA RM 1 to RM 4 which is currently in development as part of the Horizon Europe Project CARDEA). Successful leadership in research management requires development of a wide range of capabilities, it can involve balancing an array of different professional roles and relationships, and careers may move flexibly between fields and even sectors.
Made up of ten concise modules, from Epigeum, the programme explores the key capabilities that underpin research management, ensuring that research managers career goals are well-articulated and supported by a professional knowledge base. Integrating opportunities for critical reflection and goal-setting, this programme will provide flexible tools, case studies and practical activities covering key areas including leading research teams; collaboration; managing projects; communication and relationship management; funding research; and building engagement, impact and dissemination strategies.
The emergence of research management careers has resulted in positive synergies, showcasing the flexibility of research managers to navigate interdisciplinary boundaries. Research Managers play a crucial role in connecting researchers, funding agencies, policymakers, and the private sector.
