Knowledge Space

CARDEA is in the process of developing a comprehensive knowledge space for the European Research Manager ecosystem. This involves accurately assessing existing knowledge and activities and identifying gaps, contradictions, and unexplored aspects of research manager contributions. Historically activities in this space have focused on a single area (e.g. training) or a specific sector (e.g. natural sciences) and have had limited impact on policy change, as evidenced by the invisibility of research manager careers in European and national policy priorities structures. Our consortium brings together, through the HRS4R network, a diverse, well-connected team with direct links to RM to gain an understanding of the challenges "on the ground" but also, with strategic influence through direct access to decision-makers and influential bodies on the national and European level.

CARDEA Career Framework

Below is a link to the Draft CARDEA Career Framework for Research Managers.

It is a simple and interoperable career framework for Research Managers within the European Research Area (ERA) and offers a multitude of benefits. The CARDEA Matrix Framework provides clarity and transparency, allowing research managers to navigate their careers from entry level. By clearly defining levels (RM 1 to RM4), proficiency levels, job families, competencies and training, it establishes a clear pathway for professional growth and development. Moreover, an interoperable framework ensures consistency and comparability across different research institutions, universities, and Member States, enables implementation, mobility, and exchange of talent within the ERA. The CARDEA Matrix Framework is a fair, open, and transparent framework for all research managers.
