Hugh O'Conor is an award-winning actor, writer, director, and photographer. He won the 1991 Youth in Film award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as the young Christy Brown in the Oscar-winning My Left Foot (1990), and was nominated at the 2001 SAG awards for Best Ensemble for his performance as Pére Henri in the Oscar-nominated Chocolat (2000). In 2013 he won the Irish Times Theatre award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as the Fool in King Lear at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin.

Masterclass with Damian McCarthy

His focus on crafting short horror films, including He Dies At The End, Hatch, Hungry Hickory, Never Ever Open It, and How Olin Lost His Eye has garnered him international recognition at festivals such as Frightfest in London, Screamfest in LA, The New York City Horror Film Festival, and the San Sebastien Horror & Fantasy Film Festival.

Emer Reynolds appointed as the Arts Council Film Artist in Residence at UCC for 2024
01 Dec 2023The Film Artist in Residence role, based in the School of Film, Music and Theatre, is jointly funded by the Arts Council and UCC and is now celebrating a decade of successful residencies. The scheme is designed to provide a film artist of distinction with a unique opportunity to develop their practice in a university environment, while offering students and staff of Film & Screen Media the opportunity to engage with a practising artist in a meaningful way during the course of their studies.
