Festival Review - Ireland Wildlife Film Festival - UCC

University College CorkWhile male-centred narrative has dominated much of twenty-first-century Irish film, female characters have continued to provide some of the most memorable, and sociopolitically significant, moments on the contemporary screen. From the subversion of old tropes surrounding gendered stereotypes and roles, to the underlining of women’s place in and treatment through Irish history, contemporary depictions of women – as peripheral characters or protagonists – present fertile ground for exploring the societal and cultural trajectories of Ireland since the new Millennium.

UCC and the Arts Council have appointed Alan Gilsenan as the 2019/20 Film Artist in Residence.
25 Jul 2019The Film Artist in Residence role is jointly funded by UCC and the Arts Council, and is offered in association with the Cork Film Festival. It is designed to provide a screenwriter of distinction with a unique opportunity to develop his/her practice in a university environment, while offering students the opportunity to engage with a practising artist in a meaningful way during the course of their studies and their wider cultural involvement in campus life.
