Summer Intensive Arts Research Grants
Summer Intensive Arts Research Grants
Application Information and Form, 2024
Staff and Postdoctoral Scholars across UCC are invited to apply for a Summer Intensive Arts Research Grant of any amount up to a total of €1,500 for research expenses. You can apply for a grant for any type of research expense(s), including attendance at any conference, seminar, workshop or event where you are presenting your research (including outreach, museum or public events), any event/conference/workshop you are organising or co-organising, publication costs (including copyright permission fees for textual material or illustrations/images), or any other arts research expenses justified on the application below.
The research should relate to one of CARPE’s three mission pillars (More details at: https://www.ucc.ie/en/fmt/carpe/):
1. Arts Practice and/as Research
2. Critical Arts, Culture, and Heritage Research
3. Socially-Engaged Arts Research
CARPE’s assessment committee will allocate its total €3,000 fund according to artistic and research excellence – as well as promise, innovation, feasibility, and need as communicated by the applications.
Applications are due by Wednesday, 17 July. Results will be announced by Friday, 26 July. The research activity must be completed and claims/reimbursements filed by 30 September 2024—apologies in advance for the tight turnaround on this newly created funding stream.
Please send your completed application on this form (see below) by email to eithne.egan@ucc.ie by 5pm (Irish time) on Wednesday, 17 July.
Before applying for a grant, please read and note the information below.
Conditions of the Summer Intensive Arts Research Grant
Before applying for a grant, please note the following conditions of any award:
(1) In accordance with UCC policy, you must get any conference/event/travel approved through the University authorisation process relating to Project Alpha (if you receive an award, the Committee will advise you about the relevant information to include).
(2) Your expenses relating to the award must be spent and claimed before 30 September, 2024. If you receive an award, all costs must be spent and claimed by 30 September, 2024 or funding will become null and void.
(3) Claims for expenses (relating to awards) must be submitted via Agresso within three months of occurrence. Please also note that claims must be made before the end of September 2024 (but you can claim in advance for research costs after this date, as long as they occur within three months of your claim date).
(4) If you receive a grant, you must acknowledge the support from CARPE in any resulting publication or output or in conference/event literature (if your grant is for an event you are (co-)organising).
CARPE will feature brief 250-word reports (including images) about the research activity on its webpage at: https://www.ucc.ie/en/fmt/carpe/
Criteria for selection of applications:
The CARPE Selection Committee will consider applications on the basis of the following criteria:
(1) the relevance of your research to any of CARPE’s three mission pillars: 1.) Arts Practice and/as Research, 2.) Critical Arts, Culture, and Heritage Research, 3.) Socially-Engaged Arts Research. See https://www.ucc.ie/en/fmt/carpe/ for more information.
(2) the artistic and research excellence of the project.
(3) the promise, innovation, and feasibility of the project.
The Selection Committee will consider existing awards and other funding already received by the applicant(s) in order to adjudicate fairly on the award allocations. Consideration will also be given to candidates who may be disadvantaged by circumstances, and who would benefit from support granted for the realisation of a strong project or proposal.
