Professor Henry Jenkins, Provost Professor of Communication, Journalism, Cinema, University of Southern California, former director of the MIT Comparative Media Studies Program, is author/editor of twenty books on media and popular culture.

Students from UCC have been nominated for two Learning on Screen Awards. The Learning on Screen Awards have celebrated the use of film and media in education and research since 2005 and are awarded to students and industry professionals for projects ranging from non-professional work through to broadcast production.

University College Cork’s Alphaville: Journal of Film and Screen Media has been awarded Best Peer Reviewed Open Access Journal in the Irish Open Access Publishers (IOAP)’s Inaugural Diamond Open Access Publishing Awards 2024.

Eight UCC students have been awarded the prestigious title of Puttnam Scholar. The Puttnam Scholarship programme offers UCC students from any discipline the opportunity to work with and learn from digital education pioneer Lord David Puttnam, Oscar-winning producer of films including Chariots of Fire, The Mission, The Killing Fields, and Midnight Express. This year’s scholars are final-year and postgraduate students in the fields of Theatre & Performative Practices, Experimental Sound Practice, Business Information Systems and Film and Screen Media.

Film and Screeen Media graduate Benni Rupprecht has taken the lead in programming both the Out of Frame and People’s Picturehouse session this month.
