Valio is Finland’s biggest food exporter, which brands itself as “the most innovative dairy and food company in the world”. Many years ago, a Valio employee won a Nobel Prize for figuring out how grass can be converted to silage using LAB fermentation. The School of Food and Nutritional Sciences in UCC have had several research interactions with Valio over the years, most recently in the form of a PhD project led by 3 in house academics.
