The Art Library by the Glucksman is an innovative approach to sharing art and knowledge driven by the principles of creativity, inclusion and participation. Whether a child in a rural classroom, a resident in a nursing home, or a family living in supported accommodation - for many people, access to artworks presented in museums and galleries may seem beyond their reach. Through The Art Library, they have the opportunity to borrow original works of art and access inspiring educational materials that combined enable them to engage with the relevant issues of our time with, and through, art.

To achieve this, the Glucksman has developed a loan collection of specially commissioned artworks that allow for the considered exploration of contemporary research themes and societal challenges. These stimulating new works of art will be made available to schools, community spaces and healthcare settings across the country. As well as co-ordinating these local presentations, the Glucksman will provide online activities and printed booklets that support creative learning and idea generation all uniquely informed by the scholarly input of university academics.

For Community Week, we are presenting an exhibition of some of the commissioned artworks as well as testimonies from the communities that have already engaged with the initiative.

Together with and for Community

The Glucksman is a leading museum nationally and internationally for creative learning and access to the visual arts. It creates a welcoming space for future, current and graduate students of UCC to learn from art, and enriches the campus environment through the care and presentation of the UCC art collection. The culture of innovation and passion for access at UCC is embodied in the Glucksman’s curatorial and educational programmes and enables the University to nurture creative connections between people and disciplines.

UCC Community Week: This event is part of UCC Community Week 2021. During Community Week, staff and students across the university come together with community and public sector partners to host community focussed events and activities. The week long programme of events celebrates UCC as a civically engaged university.
