During the Community Week event 'Reconnecting Communities: Healing, Recovery, and Looking to the Future', the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences at UCC launch a new publication that puts a spotlight on civic and community engagement in their College. 

UCC Community Week is a moment in the year where we celebrate with our community partners the wonderful university and community interactions that take place all year round across Cork, Munster, nationally and globally. Here is our pick of events that will interest Community Groups, as many of the events showcase exemplary approaches and provide practical insights on how communities and universities are collaborating together to address global challenges and build strong and cohesive communities.

UCC Community Week is a moment to shine a light on the civic and community engagement activities that take place all year round across the whole University, locally, nationally and globally. Here is our picks for research, teaching and learning staff wanting to hear from peers and colleagues in Cork and further afield, to support their practice as community engaged professionals. In this year’s Community Week, many of the events showcase exemplary approaches and provide practical insights for how educators can become immersed in and strengthen their engaged research and learning practice.

The strong contribution by UCC students to this year’s Community Week is testament to the resilience and compassion of Ireland’s student leaders. UCC Students are standing up and taking responsibility for creating a better future that cares for health and wellbeing, inclusive communities, the environment and a just society. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the culture of student engagement, through clubs, societies and volunteering at UCC, shines through in their commitment to this year’s Community Week. Here are some of the community week events led and delivered by students during UCC Community Week 2021:

Creating Our Future is an opportunity for everyone in Ireland to give ideas on how to make our country better for all.  Dubbed as Ireland's biggest brain storm it invites Irish citizens to submit their ideas to help shape the future. From science, the environment, health and education to poverty, the arts, diversity and inclusion - all ideas are welcome that can inspire research that matters and making a better future for Ireland. Tell us what researchers in Ireland can do to create a better future.

The European University of Post-Industrial Cities (UNIC) is an alliance of eight universities in post-industrial cities. UNIC CityLabs are meeting points where university and city partners are working together to identify and solve societal challenges faced by their regions. The First International CityLabs Festival will take place in Liège, Belgium between the 14th and the 16th of October 2021. This Festival brings together citizens, academia, government and business from the eight Cities to identify challenges their localities are facing and to try to find sustainable solutions. 

The UCC Gaisce Project was officially launched on October 11, at 6pm, in Boole Basement 4, as part of UCC Community Week. Guest speakers included the President of UCC, Professor John O'Halloran, the CEO of Gaisce, Yvonne McKenna, and UCC Alumnus and Member of the Gaisce Council, Dr. Ali Khan.
