The paper titled ‘Evaluating the performance of nanostructured materials as lithium-ion battery electrodes’ by Mark Armstrong, Justin D. Holmes, William J. Macklin and Colm O’Dwyer (Nano Research 2014, 7, 1) has been awarded the Top Paper prize for 2014 by the Editorial Board of the journal Nano Research and the Tsinghua University Press (TUP). 

The 68th Irish Universities Chemistry Research Colloquium took place in UCC this week.

The Department of Chemistry at University College Cork will host the 68th Irish Universities Chemistry Research Colloquium on June 23rd & 24th.

Prof. Paul Hurley has been appointed as a Research Professor within the Department of Chemistry at UCC. Paul is an internationally renowned expert in electronic materials and devices. A brief bio on Paul is given below.

This morning saw 13 Chemistry students graduate with Ph.D. degrees.

Dr. Aoife O’Sullivan and Dr. Ian O’Connor, Technical Officers for 1^st Year Chemistry students, have been awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

Todays quarterly staff meeting of the Chemistry Department saw Head of Department, Prof. Justin Holmes, open the new departmental staff room, located on the third floor of the Kane Building.

Prof. Justin Holmes was yesterday enrolled as a Member of the Royal Irish Academy.

Chemistry postgraduate student Jennifer Halpin won the Postgraduate Research Showcase competition, in the Masters by Research category, which was held in UCC earlier this week.

Consultation arrangements for students who failed Chemistry modules in 2015/16 will take place on Tuesday June 7th 2016.
