Project Description
University College Cork have long recognised the need to develop high quality educational and training facilities at the Cork University Hospital campus. The development of the Cork University Clinical Medical School (CUCMS) at Cork University Hospital (CUH) is proposed to address significant shortfalls in existing educational and student support facilities for the student population at CUH. It is proposed that specific space is developed as part of the CUCMS project for further education and training infrastructure development for staff and other healthcare student needs at CUH.
The proposed building It will comprise 2,400m2 of teaching and student space incorporating a lecture theatre, and various teaching rooms with media and IT facilities along with staff offices and accommodation for student facilities including a locker room and Quiet Space. There will also be 800m2 of “Shell” space set aside for future education, training and research needs for the HSE.
The intended goals for the CUCMS@CUH development will be to:

- adhere to and monitor internal best practice, trends and standards of education and training progress towards the CUH site, meeting education and training requirements of the statutory regulatory training
- meet the anticipated increasing requirements in providing undergraduate facilities at the site as the consolidation of acute services progress.
- provide a first phase in a larger scale, modular development to comprehensively address the extensive education, training and continuing
- professional development requirements of the larger staff body at the important clinical site.
