Surgeon Noonan Society Travel to Africa

1 Aug 2023

Over 40 members of the Surgeon Noonan Society travelled to Africa this Summer to deliver much needed medical supplies and financial support to rural hospitals all over the continent.

Each year, Surgeon Noonan Society aim to raise over €100,000 through fundraising events and this money is then donated to underfunded rural hospitals in Sub-Saharan Africa. Each Summer, over forty students travel to hospitals in Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Ghana, and Zambia, bringing with them much needed medical supplies and financial aid. These students complete an elective placement with the UCC School of Medicine. Students cover all travel expenses themselves; ensuring that 100% of funds raised goes towards our beneficiary hospitals. Their support is invaluable and the hospital rely on the students returning year on year.

This year's group thouroughly enjoyed their placement and feel the experience they gained will hugely benefit them in their careers going forward.
