UCC Launches First Ever Innovation Week

2 Apr 2024

UCC's first ever Innovation Week will take place from April 15th - 19th 2024. The aim of Innovation Week is to showcase some of the excellent innovations from across the UCC ecosystem, and to encourage UCC students, graduates, and researchers alike to think about the different ways that their ideas and research can be transformed to create economic and societal impact.

Many of the events scheduled across campus during Innovation Week are multi-disciplinary and include exciting collaborations between different Colleges and Research Institutes in UCC. The Colleges of Science, Engineering and Food Sciences and Medicine and Health are holding a collaborative event on Monday 15th April, which will showcase seven different innovations and their pathways to creating impact. Another event on Thursday 18th April, co-organised by the Colleges of Business and Law, and Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, will showcase innovation and impact in the fields of business, arts and humanities.

Other events during the week include a showcase of recent start-ups from the IGNITE Graduate Business programme, presentation of student Final Year Projects, a workshop on how researchers can apply for Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Funding, training on intellectual property, and a fireside chat with UCC’s Entrepreneurs in Residence.

Speaking ahead of UCC’s Innovation Week, Prof John Cryan, Vice President for Research and Innovation at UCC said: “As part of UCC’s strategic goal of creating an innovation culture and entrepreneurial campus, we are thrilled to launch the University’s first ever Innovation Week. Through our ambitious UCC Futures programme, we work to build a foundation for economic, societal and cultural resilience and prosperity. UCC’s Innovation Week will help showcase the steps we have taken to achieve this so far, and inspire those who can contribute to this mission.”

Dr Sally Cudmore, Director of UCC Innovation said: “Innovation Week is a great new addition to the UCC calendar, and gives the UCC community an opportunity to think about how their expertise, research and creativity can be translated into products and services that benefit society. We are excited to showcase some of the excellent innovations from across the UCC ecosystem, including from students, graduates and staff, which truly demonstrate the breadth of research, innovation and expertise in the University.”
