Our Team
Dr Sheena McHugh is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Public Health, and Lead Investigator of the CUSTOMISE project. Her primary areas of interest are implementation science, quality improvement and chronic disease management. You can read more about Sheena's research here.
Dr Fiona Riordan is a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher on the CUSTOMISE project. Fiona previously worked on the IDEAs (Improving Diabetes Eye screening Attendance) study. Her research interests include chronic disease management, integrated care, quality improvement, and the implementation of service changes in primary care. Dr Susan Calnan is a Postdoctoral Researcher on the APA Falls project and 'Experiences and perceptions of evidence use among senior stakeholders in the HSE'. Her research interests include implementation science, knowledge translation, alcohol research and policy analysis. You can read more about Susan's research here.
Tanya Van De Water is Research Assistant working on the LINK project. Tanya is a Clinical Psychologist who worked as a Research Assistant at Stellenbosch University across a range of psychiatric and paediatric topics.
Lauren O Mahony is a Research Assistant working on the Sláintecare Integration Fund project “End to End (E2E) Implementation of the Model of Integrated Care for Type 2 diabetes”. Lauren is a graduate of the bachelor’s degree in Public Health Sciences at UCC and her interest areas include quality improvement in health services and chronic disease management.
Clair Haseldine Is a second year PhD scholar with the SPHeRE (Structured Population and Health Services Research Education) Programme. Clair is a Chartered Physiotherapist and is interested in chronic disease prevention and management and implementation science. You can read more about Clair's research here.
Michelle McNamara is a PhD student on CUSTOMISE (Comparing and Understanding Tailoring Methods for Implementation Strategies)) funded by the HRB Research Leader Award. She is also a student on the four-year HRB SPHeRE programme (Structured Population Health and Health-services Research Education). You can read more about Michelle here.
Claire Kerins is a Postdoctoral Researcher on the CUSTOMISE (Comparing and UnderstCUSTOMISEanding Tailoring Methods for Implementation Strategies) project, funded by a HRB Research Leader Award awarded to Dr Sheena McHugh. She is also in the final stages of her PhD with the HRB SPHeRE (Structured Population Health and Health Services Research Education) Programme. Her doctoral research examines the levels of adherence to, and the determinants of, implementation of labelling policies which focus on the provision of nutrition information on menus.
Previously, Claire was the Lead Specialist Dietitian for the National Institute for Preventive Cardiology (NIPC) based in the Croí Heart and Stroke Centre, Galway. She was involved in developing, implementing and evaluating quality service models in the areas of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity. She also contributed to the education portfolio of the NIPC and was a member of the programme Board for the MSc in Preventive Cardiology at NUI Galway.
Claire graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2006 with an honours degree in Human Nutrition & Dietetics. She then completed a Diploma in Management Studies at Dublin Business School and a Master’s degree in Health Promotion at NUI Galway.
Research Interests
Her research interests include the application of implementation science to understand the contexts and drivers of successful evidence-based obesity prevention policy implementation. She also has an interest in health services research, mixed methods and health policy analysis.
