Preventing type 2 diabetes remains a major public health priority, yet translating effective prevention programmes into routine primary care practice can be challenging. In this seminar, Prof Aina Maria Yáñez will present recent research examining how the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) has been implemented and adapted within primary care settings.
Drawing on findings from a recent systematic review, the seminar will explore key barriers and facilitators influencing DPP implementation, using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) as a guiding framework. The presentation will also examine how these factors interact along implementation pathways, shaping important intermediate outcomes such as feasibility, acceptability and appropriateness, which in turn influence programme adoption, implementation and reach.
Prof Yáñez will further discuss how structured adaptation approaches, including Intervention Mapping Adapt, can help tailor diabetes prevention interventions to local healthcare contexts while maintaining their core functions and effectiveness.
This seminar will be of interest to researchers, practitioners and policymakers working in implementation science, primary care, chronic disease prevention and population health.
