EPMG modelling contributes to Climate Council carbon budget recommendations

The Energy Policy and Modelling Group played a central role in developing the evidence base underpinning these carbon budgets. Through membership of the Carbon Budgets Working Group, the EPMG developed an extensive set of energy systems decarbonisation scenarios with the TIMES-Ireland Model in an iterative process, engaging with stakeholders and experts.
In December 2024, the Climate Change Advisory Council released its recommendations to the Irish Government on carbon budget 3 (covering 2031-35) and carbon budget 4 (2036-40).
