EPMG modelling contributes to Climate Council carbon budget recommendations

The Energy Policy and Modelling Group played a central role in developing the evidence base underpinning these carbon budgets. Through membership of the Carbon Budgets Working Group, the EPMG developed an extensive set of energy systems decarbonisation scenarios with the TIMES-Ireland Model in an iterative process, engaging with stakeholders and experts.

EPMG Research Showcase in Dublin

The EPMG had a wonderful morning at Engineers Ireland showcasing some of our energy modelling research and policy insights from University College Cork focusing on carbon budgets, policy pathways, emissions, energy security and engagement on infrastructure. Great discussions with nearly 100 stakeholders and friends from policy, industry and NGO communities. Thanks to all for the warm compliments and the tough questions.

Data Centres in the Context of Ireland's Carbon Budget

This study was commissioned by Friends of the Earth Ireland and undertaken by Prof. Hannah Daly. It seeks to explore and analyse the evidence surrounding the impact that growing data centre electricity demand is having on Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions and legally-binding carbon budgets.
