RCSI Recognises Fergus Shanahan

John J Ryan Distinguished Lecture Award For Fergus Shanahan

Professor Shanahan delivered the John J Ryan Distinguished Lecture at RCSI Research Day 2018 entitled ‘Translating Microbiome Science’. The John J Ryan Distinguished Lecture award recognizes a scientist who has made major contributions to developing innovative biomedical technologies with the potential to have a broad impact on the life sciences.

RCSI’s annual Research Day provides scientists with the opportunity to showcase their most recent research findings. The latest advances in biomedical sciences, clinical research, population health sciences, healthcare delivery and health professions education are just some of the topics featured in studies that were presented to more than 300 researchers.

“I am honoured to accept this medal and am delighted to share APC’s research in translating microbiome science” said Prof. Shanahan. “APC Microbiome Ireland has been a magnet for foreign direct investment, doubling taxpayers’ research investment, including nine international companies that would never have had a footprint in Ireland were it not for the existence of the APC.”
