McMaster Honours Fergus Shanahan

DSc Awarded To Fergus Shanahan 

Fergus Shanahan was recognized by the Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University, Ontario, Canada,  where he was awarded a DSc at their Spring Convocation ceremony.

Fergus was a McMaster research fellow from 1981 to 1983.  An inventive and prolific immunologist and microbiologist, he is renowned for his humanity and literary insight. Fergus returned to Cork as Chair of Medicine at University College Cork and has been Director of APC Microbiome Ireland since its foundation as the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre in 2003.

In his Convocation Address Fergus reminded the Health Sciences graduands that   “our future, your future, depends on risk takers.”
