Welcome from the Vice President for Research and Innovation

On behalf of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI), I welcome you to our new and improved Research Support Services website. University College Cork (UCC) is a world-class research-led University that plays a key role in the development of Ireland’s knowledge-based economy. Our University is one of the premier research institutions in Ireland and, internationally, is ranked in the top 2% of universities worldwide.

The goal of Research Support Services within the OVPRI is to support and develop UCC research activities by helping the university community secure funding for their research by providing information, assistance, guidance and advice on every aspect of the planning, execution, and application of research.

We also work to communicate to the University community, and to the general public, about the quality, breadth, and significance of research carried out at UCC.

Professor Anita R. Maguire
Vice President for Research and Innovation

SFI Research Centre Programme - 2012

SFI are consolidating their existing CSET and SRC programmes to a single entry Research Centres programme designed to encourage high-risk, high-reward, potentially disruptive, transformative research. This programme intends to both create new research centres and extend the activity of existing research centres.

Funding for the SFI Research Centres Programme is ˆ1m - ˆ5m / year (inclusive of overheads) for a number of centres of diverse scale (of team size 3 - 10 principal investigators), over a six year cycle.  In addition to the excellence of the research, there is increased focus on the economic impact and tangible societal benefit (e.g. Health service, education, social welfare, public sector) of the research programme.

An information session will be held in UCC once the programme call details have been finalised.
