We are pleased to announce an Eliza Lynch Annual Lecture series in honour of Cork-born Eliza Lynch. Originally from Charleville, Lynch became the mistress of Paraguayan Dictator, Francisco Solano-López (1826-1870) and is a national heroine in Paraguay.

In acknowledgement of this historic link, the Higher Ministry of Education, Paraguay and University College Cork have established an Annual Lecture Series along with an Eliza Lynch Postgraduate Scholarship in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences.

You are cordially invited to the inaugural event of this exciting new partnership which consists of a Round Table with participants José Gabriel Arce Fariña, Vice-Minister for Higher Education, Paraguay; Patricia Coughlan, Professor Emerita in English and Nuala Finnegan, Professor in Latin American Studies, University College Cork.
