An international team of scientists from Ireland and Germany has applied for the first time a novel mobile X-ray imaging instrumentation on fossil animals from the Messel Pit, a UNESCO World Heritage Site near Frankfurt, Germany.

University College Cork’s (UCC) School of Food and Nutritional Sciences (FNS) is honoured to be the first School within UCC to achieve a Silver Award, setting a benchmark for excellence in gender equality and diversity in higher education.

The Process and Chemical Engineering Awards took place on 24 March in the Aula Maxima. The event was sponsored by MSD with nine awards presented to fifteen recipients.

Maeve Cusack and Áine Murphy, graduates of the MSc in Dairy Process Technology, celebrated their conferring at University College Cork (UCC) on 25 March. This innovative employment based postgraduate programme is a collaboration between UCC and Kerry Group. 

An analysis of a 30,000-year-old fossil vulture from Central Italy has revealed for the first time that volcanic rock can preserve microscopic details in feathers - the first ever record of such a preservation.

On 1 March, the ACM Irish Collegiate Programming Competition (IrlCPC2025) was held at University College Cork, setting a new participation record with 180 students. Co-organised by the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics, it remains Ireland's largest and most prestigious programming competition.
