Autumn O'Donnell, PhD student in UCC's School of Mathematical Sciences, has achieved an impressive 4th place overall at the World Surf Kayak Championships in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Palaeontologists at UCC have discovered that some feathered dinosaurs had scaly skin like reptiles today, thus shedding new light on the evolutionary transition from scales to feathers.

The Irish Times has chosen Prof Brian Ó Gallachóir as the recipient of the inaugural Positive Impacts award, in association with EirGrid.

A €104 million investment in scientific research across Ireland has been announced by Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Patrick O’Donovan TD, and Minister for Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD.  The funding is being allocated to four SFI Research Centres: BiOrbic Bioeconomy SFI Research Centre; FutureNeuro SFI Research Centre for Neurological Diseases; I-Form SFI Research Centre for Advanced Manufacturing; and VistaMilk SFI Research Centre.  

UCC will celebrate Fascination of Plants Day (FoPD) on Friday, 17 May with an exhibition and guided tours at the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences.

The School of Physics, UCC recently hosted a conference on 'Massive Black Holes in the First Billion Years' inspired by groundbreaking observations made by the European Space Agency’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).

Researchers from the SFI Centre for Research Training in Artficial Intelligence (CRT AI) attended a unique learning visit to the Amsterdam Science Park, Matrix 1 at the University of Amsterdam, for a series of lectures from leading Artificial Intelligence (AI) scientists.

NIBRT (National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training) and UCC announced a strategic collaboration as part of the Future Pharmaceuticals initiative with the joint appointment of Professor Anne Moore, and Professor Elena Matsa as Principal Investigators at NIBRT and at the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology in UCC.

UCC’s BSc (Hons) in Nutritional Sciences was recently accredited by the Association for Nutrition (AfN). The accreditation is a significant achievement, allowing graduates to be directly added to the professionally recognised Register of Nutritionists for the UK and Ireland with the title of Associate Nutritionist (ANutr) on graduation.

Gillian O’Donnell, Data Science and Analytics student, won first prize in the UCC Computer Science Entrepreneurship Award 2024 sponsored by AxisBIC for her project entitled ‘Learning to defend against cybersecurity attacks’. The competition, sponsored by AxisBIC (formerly CorkBIC), in its fourth year, was created to encourage entrepreneurial activity amongst final year Computer Science students at UCC.
