Professor Pavel (Pasha) Baranov, a world leading researcher in Biomolecular Informatics in the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at UCC, has been elected to the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) for his outstanding research contributions to genetic decoding and mRNA (messenger RNA) translation.

Scientists have found three new species that are close relatives to the plant from which chocolate is produced – a discovery that could pave the way for climate-proof chocolate.

On May 13-18 a workshop on Recoding and Diversity of Genetic Decoding took place in Bantry where approximatley 100 participants gathered from leading universities around the world. 

Researchers at UCC and the Tyndall National Institute based at UCC have won a combined €2.3m in funding for projects on AI energy management and integrated photonics.

Three senior academics from UCC have been elected to the Royal Irish Academy (RIA), the highest academic honour in Ireland.
