Dr Frances Shiely
Dr Frances Shiely is a Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology and Public Health in the School of Public Health and the HRB Clinical Research Facility. She obtained her PhD degree from the University of Limerick in 2003 in the area of lifestyle epidemiology, researching on physical activity uptake and maintenance. She held a Senior Postdoctoral research position from 2003 to 2005 at the School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Population Sciences, University College Dublin where she worked in population health, specifically nutritional epidemiology, obesity and the determinants of health in old age. In 2008 she was a visiting scientist at the Department of Global Health, University of Washington, Seattle where she worked on an STD partner notification study. Frances was appointed Senior Research Methodologist in the HRB Clinical Research Facility, UCC in January 2013, and Senior Lecturer Patient Focused Research Education in 2014. She is the Director of Education in the CRF-C and Programme Director for the MSc Clinical Trials. She supervises a large number of research students and PhDs. She also provides methodological support to research studies in the CRF-C.
