About

As the Head of the School of Public Health, I feel very honoured to work with all colleagues in the School, and to build on the strengths, the hugely influential work and strong national and international reputation, established by Professor Ivan Perry and the team over nearly 25 years.

Over the past decades, under Professor Perry’s leadership, the School has developed from a small Department to the largest and highest ranking School of Public Health on the island of Ireland, with a high-quality teaching programme and an exceptional research programme led by world-class researchers. To find out more, please read Independent Thinking. the UCC Magazine.

We are delighted that the School of Public Health has been awarded accreditation from the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA), becoming the eighth institute globally to receive the prestigious recognition.

Our Vision

With Covid-19, we have experienced one of the greatest global public health crisis since the 1918 flu pandemic which is estimated to have led to the deaths of over 50 million people worldwide. Now more than ever before, the importance and relevance of public health is clear to everyone. It is also clear that over the next few years, we will need Public Health graduates to sustain and develop public health systems nationally and internationally.

Our vision is to be at the heart of society’s organised efforts to prevent disease and to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of the population. We do this by studying:

  • The causes of disease and the factors that promote good health

  • New technologies and other ways to promote health and prevent disease

  • The best way to deliver health services

Our Degree Programmes

Our School has internationally competitive research outputs, well established educational programmes and plays a leading role in changing health policy and practice in Ireland.

We have a range of excellent programmes on offer - undergraduate and postgraduate - through to PhD level.

The School of Public Health also has a highly active research programme.

Academic Year 2024/2025

We are looking forward to working with new and returning students during the 2024/25 academic year.
