Now accredited and listed on the Higher Training Scheme for the BAA
Congratulations to all at School of Clinical Therapies UCC, and especially the Discipline of Audiology. The School’s range of modules for the MSc in Hearing, Balance and Communication are now accredited and listed on the Higher Training Scheme for the British Academy of Audiology (BAA) – the first Irish University to do so.
There are only six other third level institutions with higher-level modules accredited by the BAA for the purpose of the Higher Training Scheme : Aston University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, University College London, University of Hertfordshire, University of Manchester and University of Southampton.
The UCC course creates excellent opportunities for audiologists to enhance their skills in clinical specialist areas such as vestibular assessment and rehabilitation, tinnitus and hyperacusis, paediatric assessment and rehabilitation, advanced adult assessment and rehabilitation, cochlear implants and therapeutic skills.

Head of School of Clinical Therapies Professor Nicole Müller congratulated all involved. “We are very proud to be the first Irish University to participate in the British Academy of Audiology (BAA) Higher Training Scheme from September 2023 with our credit bearing courses. I would like to pay special mention to Ciara Moloney and to Dr Amr EI Refaie, and to thank the other members of the MSc Hearing Balance and Communication team, Nicola Bessell and Christine Nilsson, as well as colleagues in the School for their support. A big thank you to the British Academy of Audiology for their help with this accreditation process.

The School of Clinical Therapies UCC offers all modules through both university credit bearing and non-credit bearing (CPD) routes (click here to see more information about the two options). Modules take place over 2-3 days and can be used by audiologists to complete the theoretical knowledge requirements for the different specialities as specified by the British Academy of Audiology (BAA) Higher Training Scheme. They can also be selected and completed individually by allied health professionals and audiologists for CPD purposes, to develop their knowledge and skills in the areas of hearing, balance and communication. Modules can also be undertaken as part of the MSc Hearing Balance and Communication, which is a two year part time course. Applications are open until the 28th of August 2023.
