Training

Semester Two 2023

Introduction

This month it's all about Ally, the accessibility reporting tool that was deployed to all Canvas courses on 09 January 2023.

We have a variety of training options for getting familiar with Ally, outlined below, including drop-ins and demonstrations. We also have guest speakers, such as Microsoft, who will talk to us about harnessing the accessible features of the Microsoft suite.

Ally

Introduction to Ally

We will open our training with an Introduction to Ally on 17 January 2023. At this session, we will provide an overview of the software - how to access and interpret the report, how to change your score, and where to find further resources. This session will be one hour in length, with time for questions and answers at the end.

Drop-in sessions

We will be running Ally online drop-in sessions every Tuesday at 11am, starting on the 24 January 2023. These sessions are beneficial to those who have specific queries about the tool and/or would like to hear questions from colleagues. Instructional Design and student support will be available to take these queries.

You can join any of our drop-in sessions using this recurring link. In order to ensure your query is answered, we advise joining the meeting no later than 11:15am.

Making Accessible PDFs

This session falls under Ally training as PDFs are commonly flagged, by the tool, as problematic for accessibility. In this session will we cover how to make a PDF accessible, which includes tagging and adding charater recognition. This includes tips for creating documents in Word and how to enhance the accessibility of documents that are not your own. This session takes place on Thursday 26 January 2023 at 11am.
