Gradam na Gaeilge

Introduction

Do you inspire others to speak Irish in the university? If you do, you have an opportunity to win Gradam na Gaeilge.  The award is presented every year to the student who does the most to promote the use of the Irish language on campus. There is €1,000 in prize money to go with the award. Every student in the university is free to enter.

Press Release 2024

Liam Ó hÓgáin, Law and Irish 2 is the recipient of Gradam na Gaeilge 2024. Méabh Ní Chonaill, Arts-Music 2 and Amergín Ó Caoindealbháin, Law and Irish 2 were presented with Onóir na Gaeilge. These UCC students received these awards in recognition of their wonderful work in promoting the Irish Language within UCC. The students are members of the Irish language society, An Chuallacht. These annual prizes are sponsored by the Centre for Spoken Irish, UCC.

Dr Caoimhín Ó Muirí, Department of Early and Medieval Irish, Katie Halpin-Hill, Irish Language and Culture Officer, UCC Students Union and Dr Caitríona Breathnach, Centre for Spoken Irish were the adjudicators.

The awards were presented by Dr Caitríona Breathnach at a special occasion in the Seomra Caidrimh, 24 April 2024.
