Discovering Open Educational Resources (OER)
Participant Group: All UCC Staff
Facilitator: Stephanie Chen, UCC Library
Target Audience: This workshop is intended for anyone with little to no knowledge of Open Educational Resources (OER) but are interested in learning more and building a foundational knowledge of OER.
Overview
Are you interested in alternatives to traditional textbooks? Want to know more about how you could save time in developing course materials and keep up-to-date? Or would you like to explore something new and interesting for your teaching?
Open educational resources (OER) can include textbooks, videos, images, podcasts, lesson plans, grading rubrics, lectures, and even courses and modules. OER are any teaching, learning and research materials in any medium that can be used by anyone.
This workshop will introduce Open Educational Resources (OER) - what are they; how to find, evaluate and use them; how to create, license, and share; and what are some of the benefits and considerations for using or creating them.
On completing the workshop, the learner should be able to:
- State the basic principles of OER
- Find relevant, high-quality open educational resources to use
- Give examples of OER they can remix or create and how they would license and share it
