Managers’ Insights Hub
What is it?
The Managers’ Insights Hub is a monthly event for heads, managers, supervisors, and team leaders. This initiative, based on feedback from senior staff aims to provide information on internal topics, share best practices, and foster discussion.
Each session, lasting up to 90 minutes, will focus on a relevant topic, facilitated by staff experts. Sessions will be a mix of in-person and online formats, providing a space to develop knowledge and understanding in areas key to your role as a Manager/Head, enable peer learning, and strengthen networks amongst senior staff in UCC.
Who is the target audience?
Heads, Managers, Team Leaders, Supervisors
How do I book my place?
All bookings are via ESS. Each session will be open for booking a few weeks in advance. Keep an eye out for an email from Staff Wellbeing & Development.

SESSION 1: Strategic Planning – Dr Rónán O'Dubhghaill
'What are the key areas in relation to the Strategic Planning Process that you as a manager/team lead/supervisor NEED to know?'
Come along and hear from Director of Strategic Planning and Institutional Research, Rónán O Dubhghaill. These interactive sessions will provide an opportunity for you to ask any questions on the topic and network with your peers. Due to demand they are being held several times.

SESSION 2: Building Capacity and Capability for Continuous Improvement While Juggling the Everyday - Michelle Nelson & Katie Sandham
In this interactive session, they will tackle one of the biggest challenges for managers and their teams to engage in continuous improvement: TIME.
Find out about:
- practical ways to invest time in improvement efforts while you're juggling everyday demands
- elements that will help you in building continuous improvement mindset and capacity within your team
- examples and good ideas from other areas across UCC
You'll have the chance to share a current challenge your team is facing, consider ways to build the capacity to address it and learn how the Continuous Improvement Action Network can help you.

SESSION 3: UCC Annual Governance Statement > Are you as a manager working in compliance? The key insights you NEED to know – Nora Geary & Áine Aherne
UCC’s Annual Governance Statement (AGS) is approved by Governing Authority in March each year. Through this statement UCC provides the HEA with the assurance that we are compliant with ALL aspects of the Statement.
For the Governing Authority to sign off on the AGS, assurances are received from Heads of Functions that their areas are compliant with the requirements through the Annual Governance Statement.
As a manager do you know what is in it, what you should or/and should not be doing, what could potentially happen if you are not compliant?
Invest 90 minutes in finding out the key insights of the Annual Governance Statement from Nora Geary, Corporate Secretary OCLA and Áine Aherne, Director of Governance.

Under this policy academic staff, Heads of School, Heads of Colleges are required to sign off on consultancy and external activities. UCC Consulting will discuss what this means and how UCC Consulting can support your schools and departments to comply with the policy and to maximise the benefits that consultancy can offer.
