What is it?
The Managers’ Insights Hub is a monthly event for heads, managers, supervisors, and team leaders. Now in its second year, this initiative, based on feedback from senior staff aims to provide information on internal topics, share best practices, and foster discussion.
Each session lasting one hour, focuses on a relevant topic, facilitated by staff experts. Sessions will be a mix of in-person and online formats, providing a space to develop knowledge and understanding in areas key to your role as a Manager/Head, enable peer learning, and strengthen networks amongst senior staff in UCC.
Who is the target audience?
Heads, Managers, Team Leaders, Supervisors
How do I book my place?
All bookings are via ESS. Each session will be open for booking a few weeks in advance. Keep an eye out for an email from Staff Wellbeing & Development.
What is happening & when 2025/2026?
Climate Leadership & Your Role as a Manager
This session, facilitated by Dr Maria Kirrane will introduce the topic of climate leadership and explore how each of us can act as climate leaders within our own spheres of influence. It will touch on UCC’s role as a climate leader within our own activities and more broadly in society. If you are interested in being more engaged with climate action, or in finding ways to encourage collective action in your team or unit, then this session will support you to do just that.

'Supporting Your Students: A Collaborative Approach for University Staff' - Gary Mulcahy, Head of Student Life
** Due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback from this session, it will be held again in November. **
Has a student ever come to you with a concern, a query or a need for support and you were unsure where to signpost them or unable to help?
Gary will take us through the Student Support Tree which depicts the supports currently available to students. Become familiar with these supports and initiatives so you can confidently point students in the right direction. We have a strong support foundation in place for our students. Let's ensure we make the absolute most of them for the students' benefit by being clear on where to signpost them.

Feedback from September session:
- 'I've been in UCC for 22 years and was not aware of some of the supports that are available to our students. This was an excellent session to refresh and update my knowledge of all the different ways we can support our students to succeed academically and personally'.
- 'Student services at UCC are (thankfully) constantly expanding, making them hard to keep track of. In under an hour, Gary gives a clear overview of available supports and invites attendees to share their experiences. A highly useful session for anyone supporting students.' Alfie Davis, Student Engagement and Employment Coordinator
- 'Gary did a brilliant job showcasing the wide range of resources available within the institution to support our students. His presentation was not only informative but also very clear in guiding us through the complex network of bodies and organisations involved in delivering comprehensive student support in our institution'.
