Dr Anthony Cummins
Anthony graduated MB BCh BAO from UCC (1979). Thereafter he worked in the UK NHS in both hospital (Glasgow and Aberdeen)
and primary care (Wirral, Cheshire) obtaining his MRCGP in 1990.
In 1993 he developed the UK's first GP Exercise Prescribing Service and in 2000 developed a GP-led community-based heart failure centre in Merseyside, becoming its first Clinical Director. Throughout the 1990s he held academic posts as Honorary
Clinical Lecturer in General Practice at Liverpool, Manchester and Warwick universities.
He returned to Ireland in 2007 as GP & Academic Clinical Lecturer in General Practice at RCSI Dublin until his secondment to RCSI's new medical school in Malaysia,
Perdana University in Kuala Lumpur (2014). Here he held the dual posts of Professor of Family Medicine and of Medical Humanities until his retirement to Cork in 2021.
Since 2022 he has been initially Tutor and more recently Senior Lecturer at the Department of General Practice here at UCC,
his Alma Mater.
