UCC-COH MRes Scholarship Awarded to Kevin Terry

Cork Opera House and the School of Film, Music & Theatre at UCC are delighted to announce that the 2023-24 UCC – Cork Opera House MRes (Masters by Research) Scholarship recipient is the composer, performer and sound designer Kevin Terry.

Terry holds a first class MA in Composition from MTU (2020) and has received multiple awards for his work including the West Cork Chamber Music Composition Prize (2021), the IMRO/ Feis Ceoil String Orchestra composition prize (2021) and the Jerome Hynes Young Composers’ Award (2019).

Kevin’s MRes project will develop a multimedia work in response to Cork Opera House incorporating sonic, architectural, and historical perspectives of the building as source material.

This is a unique opportunity for both institutions to collectively play a key role in supporting an emerging artist -  we are looking forward to working with Kevin, who I'm sure will use this opportunity to create something exceptional. 

Kevin’s previous artistic practice has involved score-making, installation, improvisation, and sound-design for theatre. Currently his work is concerned with the figuration of sound and of listening.

This postgraduate scholarship is one of the pillars of the Creating Together partnership between Cork Opera House and UCC, funded jointly by Cork Opera House and the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Science at UCC.  We’re delighted that Kevin will be supervised by John Godfrey and Dr. Jeff Weeter in the Department of Music at UCC.
