We're looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher / senior postdoctoral researcher (depending on experience) to join us at the Cleaner Production Promotion Unit. The sucessful candidate will work within an existing team focused on the human and societal dimensions of the energy transition.

Researchers at the Cleaner Production Promotion Unit based in the UCC School of Engineering and Environmental Research Institute are to lead a new c. €2 million project addressing energy poverty. The project entitled 'EnergyMeasures: Tailored measures supporting energy vulnerable households' is funded by the European Commission through its Horizon 2020 Programme for Research and Innovation.

Cleaner Production Promotion Unit joins with researchers from across Europe to participate in an innovation on low carbon industration production using carbon capture and storage (CCS). 'REALISE: Demonstrating a Refinery-Adapted Cluster-Integrated Strategy to Enable Full-Chain CCUS Implementation' is funded by the European Commission through its Horizon 2020 Programme for Research and Innovation.

Within this project, UCC leads a package of work focused on the societal readiness of the technology, and the social acceptability of its potential deployment. The project commenced at the start of May 2020 and will be implemented over a three year period.

UCC's Dr Niall Dunphy was an invited speaker at the 10th EU Citizens' Energy Forum held 20-21 September in Dublin Castle. 

A number of Horizon 2020 projects, concerned with the social science and humanities (SSH) aspects of energy combined to develop an interesting workshop which was delivered during the recent EU Sustainable Energy Week 2018 in Brussels. 

The UCC-led ENTRUST H2020 project sucessfully concluded at the end of April. Last week saw a well-attended and warmly received exhbition of the results from this innovative study into people's relationship with energy. 

UCC's Niall Dunphy, was a guest speaker at the the recent World Sustainable Energy Days (WSED 18) held in Wels, Austria, where he presented the work of the ENTRUST project. 

Imagining 2050 - an exciting new EPA-funded project, builds on existing energy transition work within UCC to explore and co-develop future visions of, and pathways to, a low carbon and climate resilient future for Ireland.

Exciting new US-Ireland triparite research project seeks to find novel sustainable re-use options for end of life wind turbine blades.

On 6 October 2016 Niall Dunphy, the Director of CPPU received a leadership award for his work in multi- and inter-disciplinary research at the annual UCC Staff Recognition Awards hosted by Dr Michael Murphy, UCC president.

On 12 June 2016, CPPU are running ‘energy games’ in conjunction with the annual Street Feast in the Community Garden, Dunmanway, Co. Cork, Ireland. Young and old are invited to join us for fun activities, spot prizes, and food.

CPPU's Ger Mullally recently presented a paper on work from the ENTRUST project at the 2nd ‘International Conference on Smart and Green Transitions in Cities and Regions’ in Graz, Austria April 4-6, 2016. 

CPPU contributed to the recent NATO Advanced Research Workshop ‘Towards Energy Efficiency through Behaviour Change in the Military’, organised by NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence (NATO ENSEC COE) held in Vilnius, Lithuania 5-7 April 2016.

CPPU had a strong representation at the 26th Irish Environmental Researchers' Colloquium, ENVIRON 2016, held in Limerick, Ireland 22-24 March, with five participants delivering five oral presentations and two poster presentations on its ENTRUST and NewTREND H2020 projects.

The first plenary meeting of the NewTREND H2020 project, led by Integrated Environmental Solutions Ltd. is being held in Glasgow on 7 & 8 October. The project, which commenced in September, aims to develop an integrated design methodology for energy retrofit specified for use for individual buildings and at the district level, addressing all phases of the refurbishment process.

As part of today's 2016/2017 Energy Work Programme Info Day in Dublin, CPPU Director, Niall Dunphy delivered a talk on the topic 'perspectives on success' sharing experiences from both coordinating and partnering in success FP7 / H2020 proposals and lessons from those than got away!

CPPU report on the state of play of Environmental Policy Integration (EPI) by Ger Mullally and Niall Dunphy has been published by the National Economic and Social Council.
