UCC Hockey Celebrate Division 2 Munster League Title and Strong Season Across the Club

Last Friday marked a proud moment for UCC Hockey as their Division 2 women's team was officially awarded the Munster League Title, capping off an exceptional season. Present to accept the award were coach Mark Mulcahy, manager Carmel O’Connor, captain Aoife Cronin, team member Gill O’Leary, and UCC Hockey Development Officer Sharon Hutchinson.

This recognition comes alongside another major accolade — coach Mark Mulcahy was named UCC Sport Coach of the Year, acknowledging his outstanding leadership and contribution to the club’s success.

In another proud moment, Micaela Sanderson, a standout First Team player, received a UCC Sports Star Award in recognition of her exceptional performances throughout the season. Her dedication and impact on the pitch were a key part of the 1st team’s campaign in the EYHL1.

The Division 2 team’s triumph was the highlight of a standout season in which they also claimed the Munster Division 2 Cup and the Cork Examiner Cup, securing a remarkable treble. Their achievements top what has been a strong overall season for UCC Hockey.

Other key successes for the club included:

The Division 3 women’s team winning the Munster Cup.

The Division 4 team earning promotion to Division 3.

A return of men’s hockey to competitive action — a foundation the club is eager to build upon in the coming season, with plans to further develop the men’s section and strengthen its presence.

The Women’s 1st team competing strongly in the EYHL1, despite eventual relegation.

Looking ahead, UCC Hockey hopes to build on this momentum. Plans are underway to introduce an additional women’s team next season to meet growing demand.

UCC Hockey extends sincere thanks to everyone who supported the club throughout the year: to Morgan Buckley and all the staff in UCC Sport, the Clubs Executive, our valued sponsors and partners, dedicated coaching and management staff, loyal supporters, and the Mardyke Arena, particularly for their assistance and expertise with squad gym. To all our volunteers, thank you — your continued dedication is the backbone of UCC Hockey’s success.

Special thanks go to our fantastic student committee, whose tireless work behind the scenes helped keep the club running smoothly — especially Ali Hornibrook and Cian Doyle, who served as this year’s Club Captains with great commitment and enthusiasm.

Finally, we would like to wish all those involved in national squads the very best of luck over the summer months — we are proud to see UCC Hockey players representing at the highest level.

Enjoy the Summer break !
