The weekend games began with Division 3 playing in their first round of the Division 3 Munster Cup against visitors Bandon Hockey Club at the Mardyke. Kirsten Browne scored in the early stages of the game to give UCC the lead. It was a hard fought game on both sides with the Bandon keeper pulling off some good saves throughout. At the end of the 3rd Quarter UCC scored from a corner through Sarah Bryce. The students confirmed their win with another goal in the final quarter from Jill Shanahan. Final score 3-0. With Waterford, C of I, Cork Wanderers and UCC it will be interesting to see the semi final pairings due to be played on the 9th and 10th March.

 

The Women's 1sts headed to Galway for their 3rd EYHL2 game against NUIG. They made it 3 out of 3 wins with goals coming from Emma O Sullivan (2), Zahra Lowry, Sarah Murphy, Nikki Barry and Micaela Sanderson. Next weekend they take on EY1 leaders Loreto in the Irish Senior Cup. The game takes place at the Mardyke at 1pm

 

The Division 2 side make it a double header with their Irish Junior Cup next Saturday at the Mardyke. Tip off 3.30pm. They play Dublin side Old Alex, who beat Muckross last week with their game ending in shuttles. The Division 2 side were disappointed with their 1-0 loss against Cork Harlequins at the weekend in the Munster League. The students had plenty of opportunities to score against a Quins side who took their opportunity. Final score 0-1.

 

The Division 5 side play away this Sunday in the Div 5 Munster Cup against Clonakilty at 2.30pm. Best of luck to the team who are currently top of their Munster League.

There is great excitement within the club this week as everyone is looking forward to the UCC Hockey Ball. It takes place at the Rochestown Park Hotel on Wednesday.

 

In other news a Mixed Hockey team has been entered into the Student Sport Ireland Mixed Hockey League this semester. We will keep you in touch with upcoming matches.
