Experiencing Sports Broadcasts without Borders - Dr Seán Ó Conaill and Dr Robert Butler

The televised broadcasting of professional sports events followed all over the EU and beyond can contribute to developing an incipient EU identity through a common experience with a low language barrier. Nevertheless, the way in which sport is currently broadcasted does not allow such a development.

This hybrid event (MS Teams/Áras na Laoi, School of Law UCC) aims to shed light on the regulatory and economic causes for this, the contribution of EU rights, or rather their limitation through EU economic law, and to offer proposals how these artificial limitations of experiencing sports events without boundaries can be overcome
