United Nations Summit of the Future Action Days

Prof Brian Ó Gallachóir was delighted and honoured to participate in the United Nations #Summit_of_the_Future_Action_Days representing University College Cork and SDSNIreland. United Nations Secretary General António Guterres put it well in saying ‘We’re at a critical point in time … International challenges are moving faster than our ability to solve them'.
He is encouraging world leaders to extend their horizons beyond current wars by adopting a pact that he hopes will set a path for a new system of global governance that can prevent similar crises in the future.

1) harnessing the knowledge and capacities of universities worldwide to co-produce sustainable solutions with other societal partners and nearly 1900 other universities within the Sustainable Development Solutions Network
2) initiating today’s ‘Peace not War’ side event to coincide with the hashtag#International_Day_of_Peace, in which we will explore what lessons we can learn for peace from peace processes in Northern Ireland and Colombia
3) advancing sustainable development solutions in Ireland with other universities and societal partners in Ireland within SDSNIreland with a specific focus on Arts and sustainability, education for sustainable development, enhancing the bridging between science and policy and engaged research on sustainability.
