Student Life
Student life at UCC is unparalleled in its vibrancy, openness, and diversity. There are many ways to get involved, through Sports Clubs and Societies, the Students Union, and the Mardyke Sports Arena. Or you can always simply hang out with some friends in the Student Hub or in the President’s Garden (weather permitting!).
In Cork itself, you’ll find a city buzzing with music, theatre, art, festivals, cafés, and some of the best food in Ireland.
West Cork is a short bus trip away from the city. Towns such as Kinsale, Clonakilty, and Schull offer visitors vibrant arts festivals, world-renowned seafood, some of the best beaches in Europe, great scenery, and some good, old-fashioned local craic.
Some of the accolades awarded to UCC include:
- UCC is Ireland’s first five-star university (QS Stars 2016);

Engagement & Empowerment in UCC
UCC recognises the importance of educating and empowering our students beyond their academic endeavours. UCC offers counselling and development services, disability support, career advice and medical and sexual health services to all students during their time at University.
In an effort to continue the University's active engagement with students and to foster personal assertiveness and social responsibility amongst the student body, UCC has launched the Bystander Intervention Programme. This programme aims to continue developing a culture of mutual respect and the prevention of social normalisation of abusive behaviour by educating students on the University's Zero Tolerance approach to all forms of unwanted behaviour. The programme will assist the student body to evaluate unacceptable behaviour and cultivate the values of positivity and support.
