The next lecture in the Study of Religions Research Seminar Series will be online on MS Teams on Wednesday 6 March 2024 from 5-6pm:

Dr Margaret Lyngdoh: Gender and Human-Animal Transformations from a Khasi Christian Context

This talk will present a documentation of the contemporary human-animal transformation traditions among Khasi in West Khasi Hills District. I will show how ecology, covenants, and liminal ontologies are mediated by such human-animals. The religious context where such transformations take place is indigenous Christianity which has now adapted to the Khasi culture and society. This presentation is based on primary ethnographic fieldwork.

Dr Margaret Lyngdoh is a Khasi folklorist and researcher at the Department of Estonian and Comparative Folklore, University of Tartu. She is an executive member of the Belief Narrative network of the ISFNR and Associate Fellow at the Highland Institute. Her research interests include indigenous religious traditions and folklore. She works with the Khasi and Karbi communities of Northeast India.
