Research led by Dr. David Burns and Professor Ken O’Halloran, Department of Physiology, was featured on the cover of a recent issue of The Journal of Physiology (Volume 597, Issue 3).

Congratulations to Dr. David Burns, Department of Physiology, for receiving a Research Award (2018) from The Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland (RAMI).

Professor Ken O’Halloran was an invited plenary speaker at the SLECR Annual Conference held in Orford, Québec, Canada, January 18-20, 2019.

Professor Ken O’Halloran travelled to Paris in late January 2019 to review research grants for the French National Research Agency.

Professor Ken O’Halloran was an invited participant at a workshop held at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort in Florida, USA (10-13 February)

Congratulations to Michael B Vaughan (BSc Physiology Class of 2018) who was awarded Graduate of the Year in the College of Science, Engineering & Food Science (SEFS). 

Our PhD trainee Ms Sara AlMarabeh received the prestigious Anne E. Suratt best oral presentation award at the 16^th International Sleep and Breathing Conference in Tampere, Finland between 5^th and 7^th of August 2019.

Congratulations to Dr. Fiona McDonald, Department of Physiology, who has been awarded a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Starter Investigator Research Grant (SIRG) award (€511,000) for her project “A trilogy of stressors in the NICU: Towards therapy for preterm adversity”.

In recognition of Fiona’s career trajectory and the significance of her scholarly work, the Experimental Physiology Editorial Board has awarded Fiona with the 2019 Inaugural Review Prize for her review article “The impact of preterm adversity on cardiorespiratory function”.

Congratulations to PhD trainee Jack Leacy who delivered an oral presentation entitled “Cardiorespiratory hysteresis during incremental high-altitude ascent-descent quantifies the magnitude of ventilatory acclimatization in healthy participants” at the Extreme Environmental Physiology symposium, a meeting of the Physiological Society.

Dr. Mark G. Rae and Dr. Suzanne Timmons of the School of Medicine and the Department of Geriatrics in the Mercy University Hospital were one of the top 7 applications selected for funding under the newly created CiSA programme.

Research led by Dr. Karen O’Connor, Dr. Eric Lucking, Prof. John Cryan and Prof. Ken O’Halloran published in EBioMedicine was highlighted by banner images on the journal website in two different issues of the journal.
