Several academic staff and PhD trainees of the Department and former undergraduates of BSc Physiology Class of 2018 will attend the Europhysiology 2018 meeting in London (September 13-16).

Welcome to Dr. Jason Martin who joins UCC as a senior post-doctoral fellow on a research project led by Dr. Ger Clarke (Dept of Psychiatry & Neurobehavioural Science). Jason joins a multi-disciplinary team in a collaborative project across multiple departments at UCC that aims to explore the influence of aerobic exercise on kynurenine pathway metabolism in healthy volunteers and patients with clinical depression.

Congratulations to James Healy (BSc Physiology Class of 2017) who was awarded Graduate of the Year in the College of Science, Engineering & Food Science (SEFS).

Professor Ken O’Halloran and David Burns (PhD trainee) are invited to speak and participate at the inaugural Intermittent Hypoxia Retreat.

Dr Dervla O’Malley, Department of Physiology and APC Microbiome Institute and Dr Mark Rae, Department of Physiology have been awarded Health Research Board Investigator Led Project funding.  The funding will support Ms Kimberley Stephenson to carry out doctoral studies investigating ‘Monoclonal xIL-6R antibodies as a treatment for memory dysfunction in the mdx mouse model of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.’
