David Burns and Andrew O'Leary (PhD trainees) both presented at the Irish Thoracic Society Scientific Meeting held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Little Island, Cork on Thursday 10th to Saturday 14th November 2015. Over 250 delegates from academic & clinical based units the length of the country were in attendance. David's abstract was selected for an oral communication and Andrew's work was chosen for poster communication and parallel discussion in the Sleep and Respiratory Failure section.

This summer the Department of Physiology hosted a week long summer course for primary school children organized by the Centre for Talented Youths Ireland.‌‌‌

The Department of Physiology was very well represented at the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Section of Biomedical Sciences Meeting which was held June 18^th at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

The Department of Physiology hosted an awards event at the close of the academic year on the evening of the viva voce examinations.

David Burns of the Physiology Department University College Cork presented at the Muscular Dystrophy Ireland AGM on Saturday 23rd May in Dublin.

The 2015 UCC annual spring open day was a great success.

On September 18th Prof. Ken O'Halloran will 'Play His Heart Out' at Sounds from a Safe Harbour festival.

SFI-HRB-Wellcome Trust Science Seed Award

Dr Dervla O’Malley, Department of Physiology and APC is one of just two Irish researchers awarded an SFI-HRB-Wellcome Trust Science Seed Award.

The Department bid farewell to two overseas student interns – Anna Zupetic and Andrea Iglesias, both of whom spent a few months in Prof. O’Halloran’s laboratory this spring.

Some good news for two of the Department of Physiology's  3^rd year students: 

The Physiological Society hosted a two-day international conference at the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh, Scotland focussing on ageing and degeneration. 

Prof. Ken O’Halloran and Prof. Robert Hestor co-chaired the joint programme committee of the American Physiological Society and The Physiological Society.
