The gene editing group led by Patrick Harrison has secured two new grants totalling €140,000 from American CF Foundation and UK CF Trust to fund a two-year project to develop CRISPR gene editing for a group of CFTR mutations which affect mRNA splicing.

Aidan Kaar presented at the Biochemical Society meeting entitled 'Calcium Signalling: The Next Generation'  held on 9^th and 10^th  October in Charles Darwin House in London.

Prof. O’Halloran, Dr. Deirdre Edge, David Burns (PhD trainee) and Andrew O’Leary (PhD trainee) attended the Oxford Conference on the Control of Breathing in Sydney, Australia in October 2014. 

Professor Ken O'Halloran was recently appointed Meetings Secretary of the Physiological Society (UK and Ireland).

Professor Ken O'Halloran co-organised and chaired a symposium at the Physiological Society Annual Meeting in London in July.

Prof. Alan Davidson (University of Auckland) and Dr. Patrick Harrison (UCC) were awarded a joint HRB/MRCG/Cystinosis Foundation Ireland 3-year research grant for E295,000.

The inaugural Cystinosis Research Workshop was launched in the Stock Exchange Buildings in Dublin on 20th June. 

Andrew O’Leary (PhD trainee) and Paul Lemaire (intern) were both awarded prizes for their poster presentations at the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland Section of Biomedical Sciences Annual Meeting held at University College Dublin on June 19th.

The Department of Physiology hosted an awards event at the close of the academic year on the evening of the viva voce examinations.

7,000 transition year and fifth year students from over 100 schools in Munster visited the Western Gate Building on the 10th of April 2014.

The College of Medicine and Health have awarded Physiology PhD student Kate English a Doctoral student travel bursary.

On Monday 10^thFebruary. Dr. Stephen Keely delivered a seminar titled 'Targeting bile acids for treatment of intestinal diseases' to a large audience, consisting not only of members of the Department of Physiology, but also representatives from other biomedical departments within UCC.  

Mr. Paul Lemaire has joined Professor Ken O’Halloran’s research group on an internship placement from the Université Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France.
